Overview
Module aims and purpose
This non‑credit‑bearing module is designed to help you confidently prepare for life after graduation, whether you are aiming for employment or further professional training or education. It will equip you with both the knowledge and the practical tools needed to make a successful transition into the graduate workplace.
For some of you, this module will build on the insights gained during your placement year; for others, it will draw on the skills and experience developed through part‑time work, internships, volunteering, or other activities undertaken during your degree. You will have dedicated time to reflect on your career goals, review the progress you have made in Years 1 and 2, and refine your personal action plan for the year ahead.
The module will also guide you in making full use of the support available from the Careers Team. You will explore the recruitment process, develop effective job‑search strategies, learn how to use LinkedIn to network effectively and build confidence in preparing for applications, interviews, and other aspects of the recruitment process.Â
Module learning outcomes
By the end of the module, it is expected that students will be able to:
- Analyse the roles, sectors and organisations for your chosen career, including investigating further educational experiences, such as a master’s degree
- Build and maintain professional relationships, particularly leveraging social media or online networking platforms
- Access skill development opportunities
- Understand what makes for a successful application and where to apply
- Be prepared for recruitment tests, interviews, and assessment centres
The majority of learning to achieve these outcomes will be self-guided through connection with the Careers service and Finalist Futures and other external platforms, such as LinkedIn Learning.
Module content
Content provided, will include a short series of lectures and a range of centrally provided online resources, briefings and networking events. Most will be self-guided personal study time in order to prepare and apply for workplace opportunities.Â
Structure
Teaching and learning methods
This support module will include three core lectures. There is also the opportunity to connect with University wide events e.g. Networking and Marketplace Events with employers, and a wide range of workshops and seminars that are designed to support you with graduate employment.
Online content will be made available to all students.
Students are encouraged to attend all scheduled events.Â
Study hours
At least 6 hours of scheduled teaching and learning activities will be delivered in person, with the remaining hours for scheduled and self-scheduled teaching and learning activities delivered either in person or online. You will receive further details about how these hours will be delivered before the start of the module.
